Les is a highly accomplished comedy writer and performer whose TV and radio credits include regular appearances / writing on: Comedy Nation - Series 1 & 2 (BBC 2), 5’s Company (Pearson TV for five), The 11 O’Clock Show (Ch 4), Pop Idol, An Audience With Brian Conley (ITV), This Week Only (Ch 4), and Lily Live (ITV)
Following his appearances on 5’s Company Les recorded a pilot sketch show for Meridian TV and a pilot for a men’s magazine show Boy’s Night Out for Grundy TV. In the past Les has written for GMTV and was a regular visitor on Bob Mills’ show on GLR. He is also a script writer for Warner Brothers’ videos.
A man of many disguises Les wrote, devised and performed ‘Lottery Les’ weekly on Wednesday’s National Lottery Live (BBC 1) as well as roving reporter ‘ Kenton Leyser’ for Bravo’s men’s magazine show The Late Lounge. He also appeared on Around Westminster as a bogus French journalist which highlighted just how good a character actor he is. As a presenter Les is currently recording the second series of He’s Gotta Have It for the Discovery Channel, which is a ‘must have’ gadget show which he has great fun making.
Les began his career path as an outstanding and promising mathematician. At University, however, he spent almost the entire time in the drama department culminating in a few surreal performances at the Edinburgh Fringe. Mathematics went out the window with the lure of bearing your soul to complete strangers on the comedy circuit. His eclectic brew includes a bit of yarn-spinning about the pitfalls of trigonometry. With an eye for the surreal he delivers ruthlessly funny observational comedy with great wit and style. His subjects include poignant childhood disappointments to behavioral traits of eccentric grandparents.
In 1997 he co-wrote and performed an hour-long comedy show First with fellow stand-up Neville Raven at the Hen & Chicken’s Theatre in London. In 1999 Les performed his first ever one man show at the Café Royal as part of the Edinburgh Festival. Les received some great reviews for his show Les Keen is All At Sea:
'The stream of silly anecdotes and daft observations coming from his cabin is guaranteed to have the waves of laughter rolling in.' Three Weeks
'The jokes are very funny and Les is a mine of useless information.' The Guardian
'It is his shrewd humour that lifts the show out of the ordinary.' The Stage
Les is currently writing for a semi-regular strand on R2’s Loose Ends and appeared as a featured artist on The Stand Up Show (BBC 1). He was a regular guest contributor on Radio 5 The Treatment and has written for various sketch shows on radio and television including Big Train. As a producer Les has worked on Spy TV with Ian Wright for Endemol / BBC 1 and Judgment Day with Brian Conley for Endemol / ITV.
