Michael Schaeble's fascination with TV started early when he swore to
save his allowance to get some bionics like his hero The Six Million
Dollar Man. And while it's taken him longer than expected to get the
money together, his passion for the box endured, propelling him headlong
down the rumble, tumble path to becoming a television presenter with
shows in Canada, the UK and US.
A native of Toronto, Michael started out as an actor, but the lack of a
standing ovation for his first nude scene caused a career rethink.
Journalism school followed, as did a plum position on FLARE, Canada's
best-selling fashion monthly, where he wrote extensively on
entertainment, lifestyle and pop culture, styled fashion and beauty
photoshoots with the likes of supermodel Linda Evangelista and rocker
Bryan Adams and interviewed such top stars as Coldplay, Sting and Alanis
Morissette.
MIchael jumped the pond to London in 2000, where he freelanced for
international style magazines and newspapers like Wallpaper*, Ocean
Drive and The Globe and Mail. Fate intervened in 2003 when he beat out
200 other hopefuls in auditions to co-host LivingTV's Straight Dates by
Gay Mates. Now he's still uncertain how someone with his checkered
dating history should end up fronting a show sorting love for sad
singles. His offer to sleep with the series producers was politely
declined after all, so he can only assume it was his wicked wit,
irreverent way-with-words, roguish charm and dazzling personality which
got him the gig.
Not surprisingly, none of Michael's romantic advice got anyone hitched,
but he was now happily unleashed on unsuspecting TVs across the UK and
wasn't about to go away quietly. Soon, he was helping celebs like
Jordan, James Hewitt and Melinda Messenger go deep undercover in FIVEs
Celebrity Swap, was going shopping with model Jodie Kidd on Fashion
Avenue for VOOM US, was dressing newlyweds for their big day in FIVEs
cosmetic surgery show Bride & Grooming and was saying the most
outrageous things with a twinkle in his eye as a cheeky mouthpiece on
popular chart countdown shows like Sky One's Britain's Biggest Celebrity
Mingers and C4's 100 Greatest Sex Symbols.
2008 sees Michael go global as he jumps back across the pond this spring
to make his homeland TV debut alongside the fabulous Myleene Klass and a
panel of top style gurus in Naked Fashion, a funny and fast-paced new
show on Canada's E! Entertainment Network in which celebrity fashion
disasters are humorously shredded then elegantly restyled using
state-of-the-art CGI technology. This show will also air in the UK this
spring as A-Listers Unzipped on UKTV Style.
But when not at the gym buffing up his two-pack, watching old Dynasty
catfights online to avoid working or dreaming of driving a seriously
pimped out ride, Michael indulges his inner headbanger by playing good
ol' rock 'n' roll (and, OK, the odd disco classic) on his popular radio
show The Pharmacy on West London's Riverside Radio.
